Click on links to read case studies: System design tool for configuration and deployment of embedded applications

Client
A major OEM in the commercial vehicle sector
Business Problem
Develop a new IDE that will enable the user to easily and rapidly create application software for systems.
STI Solution
The Subex consultants developed a system design tool using the graphical modeling frame work of the open source Eclipse platfom. The core idea involved was to allow system integrators with little or no programming experience to use a simple intuitive graphical interface to create robust applications in a user-friendly drag and drop environment.
Customer Benefits

  • Since many system integrators posses little or no programming experience, the OEM now has access to a much larger customer base through deployment of this tool in the market
  • No programming experience required to develop applications, thus reducing the development time for in-house applications as well
  • Ability to create and modify custom applications rapidly
  • Protection of intellectual property for the OEM
Software development for Automotive rear-park assist module

Client
A major automotive supplier
Business Problem
Application development for an automotive rear-park assist module.
STI Solution
The core idea was to develop a cost-effective rear-park assist system for a class of vehicles. The sensor hardware and test facilities were provided by the client. The on-site Subex consultants developed a test rig and tested the capabilities of various available sonar sensors with regards to detection of obstacles when the vehicle was moving at a speed of less than 5 miles per hour and identified the most promising candidate for the application. Thereafter, Subex consultants first developed the driver level software for data acquisition from individual sensors and conversion of the received echo data into a distance to obstacle value. Subex consultants also developed the appliation software in Matlab/Simulink which dealt with the logic for sonar sensor firing sequence, activation of the rear-park assist system, processing of incoming data and communication with the vehicle CAN bus for display of presense of obstacles to vehicle operator.
Customer Benefits

  • Use of after-market sonar sensors helped keep the product cost down
  • Use of Matlab/Simulink for application development enabled use of Autocode generation techniques for rapid prototyping and production code development
  • Use of S-function code wrappers hardware drivers enabled rapid application development for various vehicle platforms
Application development for a hybrid vehicle power-train

Client
A major TIER 1 automotive supplier
Business Problem
Design of control system, hardware-in-the-loop testing and production software development for clutch control.
STI Solution
Subex consultants developed a HI-Fidelity model of the system and hand using Matlab/Simulink. This model formed the basis of the control system design and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing effort.

The control algorithm was first verified and validated in simulation in the Matlab/Simulink environment. Thereafter, autocode generation techniques were used for doing on-target rapid prototyping and in-vehicle testing of the control algorithm. Once the algorithm development was complete, production code was developed for a 16-bit microcontroller and was tested in the HIL environment.
Customer Benefits

  • Use of Matlab/Simulink for modeling and simulation minimized the number of prototypes
  • Use of Autocode generation techniques reduced the time-to-market for clients' product
  • Structured software development approach enabled reuse of code, across vehicle platforms thus reducing development time and costs
