- Replacement, Re-integration & Testing of commercial Embedded UI library with an open source library for an IP Set Top Box
- Testing : Embedded Systems : Set Top Box UI
- Application Development/ Testing : Transcoding Application
- Data Management : Integrated Operations Centre View of Master Data
Client
US based IP STB solution provider
Business Problem
The client was using a commercially available Embedded UI Engine. The UI Engine, though functionally working, was an overkill for the application in terms of features and memory footprint. As a result, this was driving up the end price of the solution and also limiting the flexibility of the development environment.
STI Solution
The plausible solution to the above business problem was replacing the UI library with an open source one. But it also introduced new tasks like memory footprint optimization & custom interface development. A detailed study was done to determine the optimal replacement, keeping in mind parameters like ease of code base modification, existing application support, hardware support etc. The scope of the solution was as follows.
- Determination of the best open source alternative by statistical evaluation method
- Customization of the open source library for memory footprint optimization
- Porting the already existing STB applications to the new framework
- Integration of the OSD driver with the new frame buffer
- Unit testing and system testing of the integrated solution
Platform Details:
The device was an Equator based IP Set Top Box Platform running on Embedded Linux.
Customer Benefits
- Cost reduction of the end-product through open source substitution
- Effort parallelization leading to faster time-to-market

Client
Next generation IPTV Solutions provider in North America
Business Problem
The client needed to design & develop a transcoding and authoring application framework which would convert movies on DVD and analog tape to proprietary streams for DRM purposes and finally qualification of the output with various IP STB decoder modules.
STI Solution
The scope of the work involved the following:
Design & Development:
- Transcoding Application including UI
- Authoring Application including UI
- Application for generation of proprietary stream
- Development of a Dashboard Web based UI
Integration:
- Integration of the Transcoding Application UI with the web server.
Testing:
- User Interface Testing
- Testing of encoded stream
- System testing
Data Management : Integrated Operations Centre View of Master Data
"The more you use the standard data services across applications the better the data quality gets for mission c ritical functions"
Client
The company is a leading TIER I provider of Wireless and Wireline based Voice and Data Communication Service Provider
Business Challenge
The customer’s data services network comprised of usage of legacy and IP based network elements. The various products and services delivered to the same customer suffered from the islands of data, network elements and OSS systems associated. The client has an immediate need to get an Integrated Data View in the OSS Infrastructure that would provide a consistent view across the various Products, Services and OSS applications.
STI Solution
The Subex Solution provided support for Data Services to the Enterprise customers, and the following features were supported:
- Enterprise Customer, Accounts and Inventory Lookup
